Description
This is a farmhouse, now divided into two cottages, dating back to the 16th century, with alterations made in the late 16th and early 17th centuries, and a further extension added in the mid-20th century. The building is rendered over rubble and has a thatched roof, hipped to the right. A stone chimney stack is located at the left gable end and to the right of the cross passage. The original layout was that of an open hall house, which was later divided with the introduction of a ceiling and a two-storey, two-bay addition to the right. A room was added to the rear, and a long wing was built in the mid-20th century to the left return. The exterior has predominantly 20th-century two-light casement windows, with dormers in the first floor. On the ground floor, there is one window to the left of the entrance and two to the right, all featuring a peaked door frame with a plank door leading into No. 19. The long left return also features 20th-century windows, is thatched, and provides access to No. 20. Inside, the left gable end retains a large smoke bay. A two-centred arched doorframe leads to the room to the right of the cross passage. This room has steeply chamfered beams with step and run-out stops. There are also chamfered beams in the room at the rear, and a lath and timber-framed partition at the first floor, supported by three pairs of jointed cruck trusses.
