Description
The Sampford Brett War Memorial is a war memorial erected in 1919. It is made of roughly hewn granite, featuring an inscription in black metal lettering.
Located to the west of the Church of St George, which is a Grade II* listed building, the memorial is bordered on its north and west sides by the churchyard wall and railings, both of which are Grade II listed. The memorial consists of a Celtic-style wheel cross that sits atop a rectangular pedestal with rounded corners. On the west face of the pedestal, there is an inscription in black metal lettering that reads:
TO THE GLORY OF GOD / AND IN GRATEFUL MEMORY OF / THE MEN FROM THIS PARISH / WHO FELL IN THE GREAT WAR/ (NAMES) / THIS CROSS IS ERECTED / BY THE PARISHIONERS 1919
This inscription commemorates the six men from the parish who died during the First World War.
