Description
Week is a small house dating from around the 16th century, with a date of 1584 noted on interior plasterwork that has since been removed. The building is constructed of stone rubble and features a scantle slate roof with gabled ends, including a gable on the left of the southeast front. Originally, the house was L-shaped, but the south wing has been replaced by an adjoining linhay.
The southeast front includes two plain doorways and a two-light hollow-chamfered stone mullion window on the right side for each floor, with a large relieving arch above the ground floor. There is a similar window at the rear and a single-light window in the northeast gable end. Stone chimney stacks are present at both gable ends.
Currently, the roof is sagging and in a state of collapse at the southwest end, featuring a queen strut and tie beam construction. Inside, the floor has fallen in at the southwest end, revealing ovolo moulded ceiling beams and joists that are now lying on the floor. The chamfered ceiling beam in the northeast room remains in place. A moulded plaster heraldic achievement with the date 1584, which was previously located in a first-floor room, has been removed and is now housed in Totnes Museum. The building is currently derelict.
