Description
Yarnicombe Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the early to mid 18th century. It is constructed of rubble, with some rendering at the first floor level, and features a slate roof. The building has an L-shaped plan with the entrance located in the longer arm, which is covered by hipped roofs. There is a stack to the left of the door on the outer hip at the ridge, and another stack on the return arm near the inner angle.
The farmhouse is two storeys high. The main arm has four windows, while the return arm has two windows, all of which are 12-pane sashes set in moulded architraves that are slightly recessed from the wall face. In the second bay of the long arm, there is a panelled door that is partly glazed and is sheltered by a glazed gabled porch. A string course runs at mid-level, and there is a coved cornice. The windows feature splayed stone voussoirs and slightly projecting keystones. The right return arm is similar but has a blocked opening in the internal angle. The left hipped end has a two-light casement above a 16-pane sash, while the right return hip has four blocked window openings, two at each level. The back of the building has not been inspected.
Although the interior is not accessible, it is reputed to contain a good early 18th-century staircase with turned balusters, a moulded handrail, and square newels, as well as a corner fireplace with bolection moulding and a part-panelled room.
