Description
This milestone, dating from the early 19th century, is located near Leighmoor Cross on the south side of the B3207 in Modbury. It is made of granite, though much of it is hidden by the embankment. The stone is inscribed with directions indicating distances: 2 miles to Modbury and 14 miles to Dartmouth, without the half-mile markings found on some other milestones. It stands approximately 75 meters from Leighmoor Cross, which is situated to the south. This milestone is part of a series that marked the Modbury to Dartmouth turnpike, which was re-routed south of Brownston in either the 1830s or 1870s.
