Description

Grove Park Farmhouse is an early 19th-century farmhouse located in Aveton Gifford. The building features rendered rubble, with the back wall exposed, and has an asbestos-cement slate roof. It is designed as a symmetrical central stair hall villa with wings, serving as a decorative feature or eye-catcher from the road to the south.

The farmhouse is two stories tall with a three-window center, showcasing 12-pane plus margin bar sash windows. The low wings have crenellations and feature sashes with a horizontal bar, positioned under stopped drips. A central crenellated porch leads to a glazed door with a pointed fanlight, accessed by four granite steps. The roof is hipped with box eaves, and there are large eaves stacks on each side, along with a lofty brick shaft on the external stack of the low right wing.

At the back, there are two and three-light glazing bar casements and a central pent-roofed extension with a plank door, as well as a large three-light raking dormer. Inside, the farmhouse has a stick stair and contemporary doors with pointed heads to the panels. The right room features a plaster ceiling rose and moulded cornices. The inner front door has a pointed arch with cusping. This is a handsome building with some architectural pretension, and it remains practically unaltered.
