Description
Tetwell Farmhouse is a mid-19th century farmhouse constructed from rubble with brick dressings and stacks, topped with a slate roof. The building features a symmetrical central hall plan beneath a hipped roof that slopes down on either side, covering a harness and tack room to the left and a dairy to the right. It has two storeys and part basement, with a window arrangement of 1:3:1, all featuring 4-pane sashes set in brick arches. The central section has two storeys of windows, while the wings have only ground floor windows but also include a blind oculus at eaves level made from hoop iron.
The central entrance boasts an arched doorway with a keystone, and the door is set in deep reveals with a fanlight featuring Y-tracery. The left side of the building has a small light at the eaves, and at basement level, there is a central plank door flanked by small lights under segmental brick arches. The rear of the building mirrors the front but includes a lean-to porch and a projecting arm, along with small brick stacks.
Inside, the farmhouse retains many contemporary panelled doors, including cupboard doors, and features a segmental-headed arch leading to a door under the staircase. The staircase has a circular plan with a mahogany handrail, stick balusters, decorative ends to the treads, and leads to a straight upper landing. The windows are fitted with panelled shutters. This unusual but attractive design has remained largely unchanged since it was built.
