Description
Stoverlake Farmhouse is a 17th-century farmhouse that has been modified and features a 20th-century wing. It is constructed of rendered or painted rubble with a Spanish slate roof. Originally designed with a three-room cross-passage plan and a staircase beside the fireplace, a gabled wing has been added to the back, creating a T-shaped layout. The farmhouse has a two-storey, three-window front facing south, featuring 2-light glazing bar casements set in deep reveals. There is a door under a pent slate roof located between the second and third windows at the cross-passage. The left end of the building includes a large lean-to, and there are gable stacks. The back wing is not of special interest.
Inside, the narrow cross-passage has thin partitions on each side and a stone floor. The left room features a good bressummer fireplace and a bread oven, with a wood spiral staircase that includes a blocked window opening. The ceiling has chamfered and stopped ceiling joists along with a large transverse beam. There is a second staircase at the back and many thin plank doors, including one under the staircase with early hinges. The A-frame roof indicates that it has been raised at some point. Although the farmhouse has undergone significant restoration and includes 20th-century windows, it still retains much of its historic interest.
