Description
This is a milestone dating from around 1824, made of granite. It is a monolithic structure with rounded heads on the front and a roughly cut flat back, which is set into a bank. The front of the milestone is inscribed with "To Dartmouth 6" on the right side and "To Kingsbridge 8" on the left side, although the inscription below is obscured. Notably, the directions are inscribed on the wrong sides of the stone, indicating that it has been reset incorrectly on the opposite side of the road. The Dartmouth-Modbury Trust was established by the turnpike act of 1824.
