Description
The Blackawton War Memorial is located in a paved area on the south side of Main Street, east of Churchgate House and the Church of St Michael, both of which are listed buildings, along with several monuments in the churchyard. The memorial features a small Latin cross made of granite, which is raised on a small pedestal. This pedestal is set on a broad granite plinth, which in turn rests on a large block of coursed rubble walling that has a chamfered top.
On the front face of the pedestal, there is a dedication for the Second World War that reads: 1939 – 1945, listing four names. Below this, on the plinth, is a dedication for the First World War that states: IN MEMORY OF THE FALLEN, 1914 - 1919, with ten names listed. All inscriptions are made with applied metal letters.
The memorial is surrounded by a low stone wall, which has an opening at the front flanked by low piers, facing the street.
