Description
Woodford Farmhouse is a farmhouse that dates from the 17th century or earlier and was remodeled around the mid-19th century. It is constructed from plastered stone rubble and cob, with an asbestos sheet roof that features a gabled lower right-hand end and a hipped left-hand end. The building has lateral and end stacks with rendered shafts and yellow clay pots.
The farmhouse has a three-room layout with a cross or through passage facing south. The lower end on the right was originally the kitchen, which is heated from an end stack, while the higher left-hand room also has an end stack. At the back of the passage, there appears to be a stair turret. There is an outbuilding at the lower left end, which has external steps at the front of the house but is set back to the right. It is possible that this outbuilding was originally part of the lower end of the house, suggesting that the house may have been extended at the higher left end, but this cannot be confirmed without an internal inspection.
The exterior of the farmhouse is two storeys high and features a long, asymmetrical four-window range. The windows are 19th-century two and three-light casements with glazing bars. There is a 19th-century panelled door to the right of the centre, with a 20th-century conservatory built around it. The outbuilding at the lower end has a lower-level corrugated iron roof with a gable end. The left end of the outbuilding is flush with the front of the house, while the remainder is set back, featuring an old plank door on the ground floor, a 19th-century two-light casement above, and an external stone stair to the right leading to a first-floor doorway. A later corrugated iron outshut has been built against the front of the outbuilding.
On the rear elevation, there is a rectangular stair turret at the centre with a 19th-century two-light casement with glazing bars. There is also a 20th-century single-storey rendered outshut at an angle to the right and another large rendered outshut to the left behind the lower end. Additional outshuts are located behind the lower end outbuilding to the left.
The interior of the farmhouse was only partially inspected, with the lower end ground floor room featuring chamfered cross-beams with indeterminate stops.
