Description
This milestone, dating from around 1824, is a granite monolith located at NGR 789 532. It features rounded heads on its splayed front and a roughly cut flat back that is set into a bank. The front is inscribed with "To Dartmouth 7" on the right side and "To Kingsbridge 7" on the left side, although the inscription below is obscured. Notably, these directions are on the wrong sides, as the 1909 6-inch Ordnance Survey map indicates "Modbury 9 1/2" and "Dartmouth 7." This suggests that the milestone is not in its correct position. The Dartmouth-Modbury Trust was established by the turnpike act of 1824.
