Description

The churchyard cross, located immediately south of the Church of St Leonard, is likely of medieval origin and was restored in 1934. It is made of granite and features a monolithic tapered octagonal shaft with run-out stops at the base of alternate sides. The shaft is set into an octagonal granite socket stone base. The cross head, which dates from the 20th century, has splayed octagonal arms. Originally, the cross was positioned just outside the churchyard on the roadside to the south and is said to have been used as a whipping and tethering post before its relocation into the churchyard in 1934, coinciding with the restoration of the cross head.
