Description

North Boreston is a house that was originally a farmhouse, likely built in the mid to late 17th century. It has been remodeled and extended with outshuts at the rear in the 19th century. The building is constructed from slate rubble with a roughcast front. It features a gable-ended roof, with the right-hand side covered in grouted scantle slates and the left-hand side in asbestos slates. There is a stone rubble axial stack and a projecting stack on the right-hand gable end.

The layout appears to follow a 3-room and cross or through passage plan. The lower end on the right is heated by a gable end stack, while the hall is heated from an axial stack that backs onto the passage. The inner room seems to be unheated. At the rear, there are two single-storey outshuts, likely both from the 19th century, with the outshut behind the hall being the earlier of the two.

The house has two storeys and an attic, presenting a nearly symmetrical four-window range. All windows are 20th-century 3-light casements with glazing bars and slate cills, except for the ground and first-floor left-hand windows, which are 2-light. There is a doorway to the right of centre featuring a late 19th-century panelled door with glazed top panels, and it is sheltered by an open-fronted porch with a scantle slate roof. A small attic window is located in the lower left-hand gable end beside the stack. At the rear, there are two single-storey outshuts positioned at the centre and left, along with a loft doorway on the right. The interior was inaccessible during the survey conducted in 1987.
