Description
Apple Tree Cottage is a cottage, probably from the 18th century or earlier, located in Chillington, Stokenham. It features roughcast rendered stone rubble and/or cob, with a thatched roof and gable ends. The right-hand gable end is adjacent to another house, and there is a truncated stack at the left gable end.
The cottage likely has a two-room plan with a rear outshut, which may be a 19th-century addition. The left room is heated by a gable end stack. The exterior is two storeys high with an asymmetrical two-window south front. It has small 20th-century two-light casements with glazing bars and slate sills. The doorway is located on the left side of the front, featuring a slate canopy supported by timber cantilevers and a 20th-century glazed door. The rear outshut has been raised in the 20th century.
The interior was not accessible during the survey in 1989.
