Description

Sunnyside is a pair of cottages located in Chillington, Stokenham, dating from the 18th century or early 19th century. The cottages are built from rendered stone rubble and feature a slate roof with gabled ends and red clay ridge tiles. They have rendered projecting gable end stacks with tall shafts. The layout consists of two cottages, likely each with one main room heated by the gable end stacks and a small unheated service room at the center.

The exterior is two storeys high with a symmetrical three-window south front that features early 19th century casements with glazing bars, slate sills, and segmented heads. The central window is smaller and has two lights. There are doorways to the left and right of the center, each with a 19th century four-panel door, and a verandah supported by chamfered timber posts, which holds a slate hipped canopy. It is likely that the front of the house was originally slate hung, as a patch of slate hanging remains below the left-hand window on the first floor. The rear elevation was not inspected. The interior was not accessible at the time of the survey in 1989.
