Description
No. 34 Clarence Hill is a house dating from the mid to late 18th century. It features a mix of construction materials; part of the building is slate-hung, possibly over timber framing, while the front is made of rendered stone rubble. The ground floor has a lightly blocked-out appearance with ashlar stone and rusticated quoins at each end. The left end and rear have rendered chimney shafts with old pots, and the roof is hipped and covered with slate.
The house has a single-depth plan and is two rooms wide. It stands three storeys tall with a symmetrical three-window front. Most of the lower windows are likely original 12-pane sashes, although the left window on the first floor is a 20th-century horned replacement without glazing bars, and the second floor has late 19th-century horned 4-pane sashes. The central doorway features a low segmental-arch head and a recessed top-glazed six-panel door. The upper part of the right side wall is slate-hung. The interior has not been inspected but is expected to be of interest.
