Description
No. 9 Smith Street is a house dating from the late 18th century to early 19th century, with the possibility of an earlier core and some later modernisation. It features mixed construction, with stone rubble side walls and a plastered front over stone rubble at ground-floor level, while the upper part is timber-framed. The chimneyshafts are not visible, and the roof is slate.
The house is three storeys high and has a symmetrical two-window front, which is lightly blocked out to resemble ashlar. The windows are horned 12-pane sashes. The central front doorway has a recessed replacement six-panel door with a plain overlight above it. There is a timber drip course at the first-floor level, and the roof has plain eaves. The interior has not been inspected but is likely to be of interest.
