Description

Town Cottage is a small house dating from the late 18th century to early 19th century, which underwent extensive modernization around 1970. It is constructed of painted stone rubble and features a stack with a rendered chimney shaft at the rear right, topped with a slate roof. The building has a plan that consists of two rooms wide, with a central entrance hall and staircase.

The exterior is two storeys high with an attic and presents a symmetrical three-window front. Although all the windows, the doorway, and the doorcase are from the 20th century, they are positioned in their original locations and reflect the style of the late 18th century to early 19th century. The central doorway features a timber doorcase with panelled pilasters and a moulded entablature supported by double console brackets. Access is provided by three stone steps with iron railings on twisted iron standards leading up to a recessed fielded eight-panel door. The ground floor windows are wide horned 16-pane sashes, while the first floor has horned 12-pane sashes. The attic features a front casement with glazing bars set within a central pediment. The eaves are plain, and the roof is hipped at both ends. The interior has not been inspected but is noted to have been remodelled in the 20th century.
