Description
11 and 12 Newport Street are a pair of houses dating from 1768, with rebuilding carried out in 1897 and some modernisation in the 20th century. They are constructed of stucco on stone rubble, featuring end stacks with plastered brick chimney shafts and some old pots, topped with a slate roof. The houses are three storeys high with a regular four-window front that has been blocked out as ashlar. The windows are 8-pane sashes, with a smaller 4-pane window to the left above the doorway of No. 12, which has a recessed part-glazed 8-panel door. The ground floor of No. 11 is occupied by a 20th-century garage door. A central date plaque is positioned at about the second-floor level, and there are plain eaves and a roof that connects the two properties. The interior has not been inspected but is likely to be of interest. These houses are included for their group value.
