Description
North Hole Farmhouse is a farmhouse that dates from the 17th century or earlier, with alterations made in the 19th century. The building is constructed of stone rubble and has a cross-wing that is colourwashed. It features a slate roof with gable ends. There is a rubble stack at the left end with a tapered cap and a tall lateral hall stack at the rear, which has offsets and is enclosed in a two-storey outshut with a rear porch adjoining it. The hall range and cross-wing plan is similar to that of South Hole.
The farmhouse is two storeys high and the hall range was heightened in the 19th century, featuring four windows. The windows are 19th-century two-light casements, with the first and third from the left end having gabled dormers. There are also three-light casements with six panes in each light on either side of a 20th-century porch that has an inserted door.
The cross-passage porch is located in the angle of the building and has a scantle slate canopy. It features a 17th-century doorway with an ovolo-moulded surround and an original plank door with cover strips. There is also a ledged plank door to the rear cross-passage doorway, which also has an ovolo-moulded surround. The gable end of the cross-wing has a window with four panes, possibly set in an older frame under a timber lintel, and a two-light timber casement with six panes in each light below. The interior has been altered, but the roof space has not been inspected.
