Description

BERRYNARBOR SS 54 SE 4/27 Hempster Farmhouse - - II Farmhouse. Probably late C18, extended to rear circa 1900. Rendered stone rubble. Slate roof with gable end stacks, that to right is taller, both with drips. Originally 2-room plan with kitchen to left, parlour to right, flanking wide staircase filling the central entrance passage. Circa 1900 a new kitchen wing was added to rear left side forming L-shaped plan. Dairy outshut in the angle raised to 2 storeys in C20. Former lofted outbuilding extending from left gable end taken in to form part of dwelling in C20. 2 storeys. 3-window range, virtually symmetrical. All 2-light casements, 8 panes per light to upper storey, 6 panes per light to ground floor, except upper right- hand window replaced in C20. Slate gabled roof to central stone porch with 6- panelled inner door. Interior C19 joinery principally intact. Thin chamfered ceiling beam to left-hand room, which has one cloam and one blocked oven to its fireplace.
