Description
Lower Killigorick Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the early to mid 18th century, which was remodelled and extended in the late 19th century. It is constructed from rendered stone rubble and cob, topped with a bitumen-coated rag slate roof that has a gable end on the right and a hipped end on the left. The farmhouse features projecting stone rubble end chimney stacks, and the rear wing has a rag slate roof with a higher ridge than the main range.
The layout likely consists of a two-room plan, with a larger kitchen on the left and a smaller parlour on the right, connected by a central wide stair passage. In the 1860s, the house was extended at the rear with a one-room wing, creating an overall L-shaped plan. The building is two storeys high and has an asymmetrical three-window front.
On the ground floor, there are two late 19th-century four-pane sash windows, likely in their original openings. A 20th-century glazed porch sits on a rendered base, featuring a slate-hung gable end, a 19th-century panelled door with margin glazing bars, and a glazed door within. The first floor has three gabled half-dormers, each with late 19th-century four-pane sashes.
The rear wing, which is also two storeys, is built of stone rubble with brick dressings and granite lintels over the openings. Inside, the ceiling beams have been replaced. The roof, dating from the mid 18th century, features lapped and pegged collars, while the rear projecting wing has a mid-19th-century king post truss roof.
