Description

Church Town Farmhouse is a farmhouse that was originally built in the 17th century and remodelled in the mid-19th century. It features painted rubblestone with an asbestos slate roof that has hipped ends and a half-hipped end on the projecting rear wing. The building has a large projecting rubblestone stack with a brick shaft, along with another brick stack on the rear left-hand hipped end and a projecting rubblestone stack with a brick shaft on the right-hand side wall.

The layout of the farmhouse has been altered, possibly re-orientated, and the front south range has a two-room plan with a central cross passage. The rear wing projects on the right-hand side and incorporates a staircase projection. The farmhouse is two storeys high with a regular three-window south front.

On the ground floor, there is a mid-19th century four-light casement window with glazing bars beneath a moulded timber lintel. A late 19th century timber and glazed porch with a gable end is present, featuring a part-glazed timber panelled door. To the right, there is a 19th century three-light casement window beneath a moulded timber lintel with a slate hood above.

The first floor has two 12-pane sashes with crown glass and no horns, and to the right, there is a horned 16-pane sash also with crown glass. At the rear, the projecting wing has a hoodmould and labels over a partly blocked ground floor opening and a two-light casement without glazing bars. Above this, there is a 16-pane sash beneath a wider ovolo-moulded timber lintel, along with a 20th century window to the right. To the right of the projecting wing, there is a slate string above a tripartite sash in a partly blocked opening. The interior has not been inspected but may contain interesting features.
