Description
Trussel Bridge is a road bridge that spans a tributary of the east Looe River, built around the early 19th century. It is constructed of rubblestone and features a round arch made with dressed stone voussoirs and a projecting keystone. The rubblestone walls extend to form parapets topped with moulded granite copings. To the east, there is a later bridge that crosses the Liskeard and Caradon Railway and the Liskeard and Looe Union canal. The Liskeard and Looe Union canal was authorized in 1825 for agricultural purposes to connect Liskeard with tidal waters at Looe. As canal traffic grew, it was replaced by the Liskeard and Caradon Railway, which was authorized by an act in 1843 and opened in 1846. In 1909, the railway became part of the Great Western Railway.
