Description

Lametton Mill is a water mill, dating to around the late 18th century, built on an earlier site. It is now used as a store. The building is constructed of rubblestone, with slate cladding on the upper portion of the left-hand gable end and the entire right-hand gable end. The mill has three storeys at the front, and two storeys at the rear, with a three-window front facade. The central ground floor doorway has a reused wide, chamfered granite segmental arch and jambs with stops, and contains double plank doors. To the left of the doorway is a two-light opening with a chamfered timber lintel. The first floor window on the left is set within a partially blocked doorway. A 19th-century two-light casement with glazing bars and timber shutters is below, and a four-pane casement with timber shutters has been inserted into a door opening on the right. There are no windows on the second floor of the front. Originally an overshot water wheel was located on the right-hand gable end; this has been removed, but the mill leat and launder remain. The interior has not been inspected, but the owner reports that the machinery has been removed.
