Description
No. 56 Castle Hill is a cottage that likely dates from the 18th century. It is constructed from rendered stone rubble and features a thatched roof with gable ends. A stone rubble stack with a drip is located at the left gable end. The cottage has a two-room layout with a central staircase; the left room may have served as a kitchen, heated by the large gable end stack, while the right room might have been unheated. There is a 20th-century single-storey service addition at the right end.
The building stands two storeys high and has a two-window range. The early 20th-century windows include two-light casements on the upper storey and three-light casements on the ground floor, with a slate drip on the left side. A stone rubble porch with an original lean-to slate roof and a stable plank door flanks the entrance. There is also a small single-storey gable-ended service room at the right gable end. The interior is not accessible for viewing.
