Description

Lake Cottage is a late 18th or early 19th century house located on the South West side of Dark Lane, Pilton, Barnstaple. The front and left side walls are of painted brick in a Flemish bond pattern, while the rear portion of the side wall has been rebuilt in stretcher bond. The roof is slated and hipped, with old red brick chimneys at each end wall. The house has two storeys and a three-window front. The window and door openings are topped with segmental arches constructed of gauged brick. The centre doorway features a six-panelled door within a moulded frame, fitted with a brass knocker, letterbox, knob, and keyhole surround. The windows are sashes with eight panes, set in moulded frames that are very slightly recessed. A bracketed eaves cornice runs along the top. No windows are visible on the left side wall when viewed from the lane and adjacent roads. The interior has not been inspected.
