Description
Lower Winsham Farmhouse is a farmhouse that has been converted into a dwelling house, dating from the 16th or 17th century. It is constructed of colourwashed rendered rubble and cob, featuring a rubble and brick stack with a pantiled offset at the south gable end. The building has an L-shaped, two-storey plan with a gable-ended pantiled roof. At the rear, there is a right-angled, two-storey kitchen wing that extends southward.
The west front showcases a tripartite sash window with three over three panes in the center, accompanied by sliding sidelight sashes to the right of a half-glazed door that is sheltered by a wooden porch from the 20th century. Above, there are two 2-light casement windows. The south front includes a 2-light window positioned above a three-paned casement.
Attached to the farmhouse is a barn that extends west at a right angle to the front. This barn features a blocked loft opening above a plank door with a timber lintel. The roof timbers of the barn were replaced in the 1940s following a fire. Inside the farmhouse, many alterations have been made, but a roughly chamfered beam in the hall and a stopped and chamfered fireplace lintel remain as original features.
