Description

Ridge Cottage is a house, possibly with origins in the 17th century, though the interior was remodelled in the 20th century. It is constructed of whitewashed rendered cob and rubble with a thatched roof. A rubble stack is located at the left gable end, and another axial rubble stack is present. The house follows a 3-cell cross-passage plan, with the stack backing onto the cross-passage where the staircase is situated. The symmetrical disposition of the windows and overall dimensions suggest it may originally have been built as two adjoining cottages. The house has two storeys and a 4-window range. The left side features a 2-light and a 3-light casement window on each floor. The right side has a 2-light and a 3-light window over a gabled 20th-century porch where the entrance door is located, with an inserted French window to the right.
