Description
The Old Cottage is a cottage, likely built in the late 17th century. It features colourwashed rendered rubble and cob construction with a pantiled roof. A large rubble stack with a tapering extended cap is located at the left gable end. The right end has a through-passage that connects two cells, with a newel staircase positioned beside the left gable end stack. There is a rubble outshut at the rear of the through-passage. The cottage is two storeys high and has two 2-light casement windows, each with six panes, above two sash windows that have marginal glazing bars. The through-passage doorway is fitted with a half-glazed door. Inside, there are two stopped and chamfered beams, and an original 17th-century oak handrail at the top of the stairs, which is supported by turned balusters. The roof structure includes two original trusses with straight heavy principals, two tiers of threaded purlins, and a diagonally set ridge purlin.
