Description

This is a pair of gravestones from 1781 located at the head and foot of the Berry grave, approximately 13 metres south of the south-west corner of the nave of the Church of St Mary in Atherington. The gravestones are made of slate and feature straight heads with foliated decoration at the corners. The headstone bears an inscription dedicated to Deborah Berry, who died in 1781, stating "in hope of a Joyful Resurrection to Eternal Life." The stone at the foot of the grave includes a verse that reads, "As you am now so once was I As I am now so shall you be My Glass's run my Grave you see Prepare for Death and follow me."
