Description

This is a group of six gravestones located approximately 3 to 5 metres south of the southeast corner of the nave of the Church of St Thomas. They date from the late 18th century to the early 19th century and are made of slate with shaped heads.

One headstone features a nowy arch with an angel's bust at the top and an inscription dedicated to Mary Blackmore, who died in 1806. It is accompanied by a footstone that has a central urn above verses, which include the line, "Within this Grave lo! here doth lie A man of strict Integrity In all his Dealings Just and True," among others.

Another headstone commemorates Richard Frost, who died in 1821, and his wife. This headstone also has an angel's bust above the inscription and is paired with a footstone that features a verse around the head and elaborate urn decoration. The verse reads, "How many pompous words are often spread To Number up the virtues of the dead. Vain use of praise since all mankind must know The judgement day alone will plainly show."

Additionally, there is a footstone with a central urn above the verse, "Farewell my wife and children dear Now I am gone don't shed a tear As I am now so must you be Therefore prepare to follow me."
