Description

This cottage at Kentisbury Ford, built in 1755 as indicated by the datestone, is located at the junction of the A39 and B3229. It is constructed from painted stone rubble and features a corrugated iron roof with gable ends and a brick ridge stack. The cottage has a small two-room layout, with the right-hand room being unheated. There is an integral two-storey outbuilding with rear access on the left side and a slated outshut at the back of the right-hand room. The building stands two storeys high and has a two-window range. The windows are early 20th-century two-light casements, with three panes per light, except for the ground floor left window, which has four panes per light. A slate slab canopy covers the plank door. Above the entrance is a datestone inscribed with "John Gubb 1755." There is also a plank door at the rear left end of the integral outbuilding, which is slightly cranked in relation to the main structure. The interior has not been inspected but appears to be largely unspoilt.
