Description
The Berry headstone, dated 1760, is located approximately 1 metre north-east of the vestry of the Church of St John in Yarcombe. This headstone commemorates an unnamed daughter of Samuel Berry. It is made of hamstone and stands about 1.5 metres high. The top of the slab features a shaped head carved with a winged cherub's head, flanked by scrolls. The panel below is bordered by a frame adorned with scrolled foliage and flowers. The inscription begins with Gothic lettering, while the remainder is in Roman serif upper and lower case lettering, noting the death of the unnamed (presumably un-Christened) infant daughter of Samuel Berry.
