Description
Yarcombe Baptist Church is a Baptist church dated 1829, with renovations from the late 19th century. It is constructed from plastered local stone rubble, which is lightly incised to resemble ashlar, and features Hamstone ashlar details, topped with a slate roof. The church is oriented on a rough east-west axis, with the entrance at the east end and a late 19th to early 20th century meeting room and vestry at the west end.
The east end showcases a symmetrical three-window front. The windows, altered in the late 19th century, include a Hamstone center oculus flanked by arch-headed windows, all containing small rectangular panes of leaded coloured glass, positioned high in the wall. Below the oculus is a late 19th century tablet inscribed "Baptist Chapel, opened August 20th 1829." The original panelled double doors are located below this tablet, set under a flat hood supported by shaped timber brackets. Both the north and south side walls feature two tall original round-headed windows with stone Y-tracery. The roof is hipped at both ends. The interior has not been inspected.
