Description

The Cove War Memorial is a First World War memorial that was unveiled in 1921. It is made of polished pink granite and takes the form of a Latin cross supported by a three-stepped base. The north-west elevation features an inscription in lead lettering, which reads: "THIS CROSS IS ERECTED/TO THE GLORY OF GOD AND/ IN EVER LOVING MEMORY OF/ THE MEN OF THIS PARISH/ WHO SACRIFICED THEIR LIVES/ IN THE GREAT WAR./ 1914-18./ (NAMES)/ “GREATER LOVE HATH NO MAN THAN THIS. THAT/ A MAN LAY DOWN HIS LIFE FOR HIS FRIENDS.”/ IN HOC SICNO VINCES." The memorial is set on a stone step and is surrounded by a small gravelled area.
