Description

A First World War memorial unveiled in 1921.

MATERIALS: the memorial is constructed of roughly-hewn granite with leaded lettering.

DESCRIPTION: the memorial stands approximately 20m south-east of the Church of St Nicholas. It is approximately 2.1m high and consists of a cross that tapers towards the centre set on a haunched rectangular plinth. Within a recessed panel on the plinth is the Inscription: TO THE GLORY OF GOD/ AND IN MEMORY OF THE MEN WHO DIED/ FOR THEIR KING AND COUNTRY/ IN THE GREAT WAR 1914–1918/ KILLED IN ACTION/ (5 NAMES)/ DIED IN THE SERVICE/ (2 NAMES)/ KILLED IN WAR WORK/ (1 NAME)/ FAITHFUL UNTO DEATH/ JESU MERCY.
