Description

The Thelnetham War Memorial is a First World War memorial that was unveiled in 1921. It is made of roughly-hewn granite with leaded lettering. The memorial is located approximately 20 meters southeast of the Church of St Nicholas and stands about 2.1 meters high. It features a cross that tapers towards the center, set on a haunched rectangular plinth. On the plinth, there is a recessed panel with the inscription: "TO THE GLORY OF GOD/ AND IN MEMORY OF THE MEN WHO DIED/ FOR THEIR KING AND COUNTRY/ IN THE GREAT WAR 1914–1918/ KILLED IN ACTION/ (5 NAMES)/ DIED IN THE SERVICE/ (2 NAMES)/ KILLED IN WAR WORK/ (1 NAME)/ FAITHFUL UNTO DEATH/ JESU MERCY."
