Willow House

Willow House is a 15th-century house located on Fen Lane in Thelnetham. It is one-and-a-half storeys tall and has a three-cell plan, originally featuring an open hall. The house is timber-framed and rendered, with a thatched roof that is gabled at the south end and half-hipped on the north. There is an internal chimney stack with a plain rebuilt shaft.

On the east side, there is a small 20th-century porch addition, and on the north end, a single-storey lean-to with a tiled roof. The house has various small 19th-century two-light casement windows, each with a single bar to the lights, and three eyebrow dormers. The frame consists of four bays, with the two central bays being the former open hall, which now has an inserted ceiling and a chimney stack at the upper end.

The partition wall at the lower end retains two service doorways, featuring outer arches made from a single piece of curved timber and inner arches with small applied spandrels. The ceiling in the service end, which was originally very low, has been replaced at a higher level. The ground storey room at the upper (south) end has an exposed ceiling with plain, flat, unchamfered joists. The roof is a rafter type. The original timbers in the house, which include much coppice wood, are rather rough and irregular. Willow House stands sideways to the road on the edge of Thelnetham Fen and is considered the oldest surviving house in the parish.
