Description
Trappetts Cross Cottages is a house, now divided into two, dating from the late 16th century. It has two storeys and features a basic two-cell lobby-entrance plan, with a small mid-19th century extension at the west end and a small rear wing, likely from the 17th century, behind No. 2. The building is timber-framed, partly faced and fully encased in brick that varies in light grey and pinkish tones. The main house has a thatched roof, while the extension has a roof covered with black glazed pantiles. An internal chimney stack has a plain shaft made of small red bricks.
The ground floor includes two early 20th century casement windows with three lights and a transom, while the upper storey has two 18th century cast iron casement windows, also with three lights, featuring square leaded panes and pintle hinges. There are two slightly recessed plank doors with arched heads to their surrounds. The door to No. 1 is located just within the west extension, which has two-light windows on each storey that match those in the main house. Inside, the structure has widely spaced, substantial studding, arched braces at the corners of the frame and tie-beams, and a roof with clasped purlins and a single windbrace in each bay. It is noted that an original ceiling has been removed from No. 2.
