Description

Riverside Cottage, also known as Ironbridge Lodge, is a mid-19th century lodge, with later 19th or 20th century extensions. The original section has rubble walls with painted stone dressings, while the rest is rendered. It has red tile roofs with fish-scale bands, ornate shaped and pierced barge boards, and a rubble stack with a pair of octagonal stacks to the left of the front wing. The building is in the Gothic style and has an irregular plan with projecting wings set at right angles, one slightly set back on the right and the other at the rear left.

It is two storeys high, with much of the upper storey located within the roof space. The original part features chamfered mullioned and transomed windows, all under relieving arches. The front gable end has a window with three round-arched lights above a hip-roofed canted bay window. A gabled porch with a Tudor-arched doorway and planked door projects forward from the angle to the right of the front gable. A two-light window with latticed glazing is located in the wing to the right of the porch. The right-hand return end of this gable has a three-light window above a four-light window, both with round-arched lights. The later additions incorporate simpler Gothic detailing. The interior was not inspected.
