Description

Dodge's House is a house dating to the late 1830s, built following a fire in the winter of 1835-6. It stands at the lower end of a row in Fore Street, Bradninch. The building is constructed of cob with a stone plinth, and is plastered with a slate roof, hipped at the right-hand end. The front elevation presents a symmetrical three-window range across two storeys. All windows have unhorned eight-pane sashes, except for the ground-floor window on the right-hand side, which is horned, and all are set within simple flat surrounds. A central doorway is topped by an open pediment supported by pilasters, with panelled reveals and a semi-circular panelled soffit, and contains a fielded panel door. There are no windows to the right-hand end. The interior remains largely as it was originally constructed.
