Description

Osmond House is a house dating from the early 19th century, likely remodelling an earlier building. It is constructed of cob, rendered and built upon a stone plinth with quoin pilasters and a moulded cornice, all painted. The slate roof is hipped, and a parapet has been reduced in height.

The house has a symmetrical front of three bays. The central doorway features a wooden architrave and broken pediment, with a field and panelled door set under a semi-circular arch. The door has deep, plain-panelled reveals. Sash windows are present throughout, with the upper floor sashes retaining original timber frames and side lights, each with six panes. There is an eaves cornice with modillions. External chimney stacks have been raised and cemented.

At the rear, two early 19th century windows are visible on the ground floor, one of which has been converted into a garden door, now with a three-pane window and side panels.

Inside, the right-hand ground-floor room retains original features, including a moulded picture frame and a semi-circular alcove with panelled reveals including small festoons. The fireplace has a 19th-century chimney-piece but retains older Thorverton stone jambs and back. Panelled window reveals and doors are present throughout the house, and the kitchen has a slated floor.
