Description

This is a barn and cow house located approximately 8 meters west of Burrow Farmhouse, dating from the late 18th to early 19th century for the barn, and mid to late 19th century for the cow house. The buildings are constructed from local chert rubble with larger, more carefully shaped quoins, and feature slate roofs.

The layout consists of a barn and an adjoining cow house, which are aligned on slightly different axes but both face west. The barn on the left has central full-height doorways that open onto the threshing floor. The cow house on the right has a hayloft above and extends forward a short distance at its right end.

The exterior of the barn includes short projecting midstrey walls at the full-height doorway, which contains a solid plain timber doorframe and double doors, similar to those at the rear. The cow house features an arcade of six round-headed arches and has two hayloft loading hatches. The projecting room has a doorway on the side and a ground floor window under a low segmental arch at the end, along with a hayloft loading hatch. Both buildings have gable ends, and the main roof steps down from the cow house to the barn.

Inside, the buildings have plain carpentry details. The barn is open to an A-frame truss roof supported by plate yokes, while the cow house roof is held up by scissor-braced trusses.
