SX 79 NE CREDITON HAMLETS

6/57 Barn approx. 40m west of Bradleigh Farmhouse

GV II

Barn. C18. Flemish bond brick including some burnt headers on rubble footings; corrugated iron roof formerly thatch. Gable-ended barn on north-south axis. Large opposing double doors to threshing floor are both set in slightly projecting midstreys. On each side the roof is carried down over the midstrey and flattened segmental relieving arches surmount the doorway. The bottom brick course projects as a chamfered plinth around the barn. On the east side facing the farmyard, first floor loading bays flank the main doorway but most of the wall to the right has been rebuilt with re-used and later brick. Each gable end has a single ventilator. 5-bay roof of A-frame trusses with pegged lap-jointed collars.
