Description
This is an 18th-century barn located approximately 40 meters west of Bradleigh Farmhouse. It is constructed of Flemish bond brick, featuring some burnt headers, and is set on rubble footings. The barn has a corrugated iron roof that was formerly thatched and is oriented on a north-south axis.
The barn has large double doors on the threshing floor, which are slightly set back in projecting midstreys. The roof extends over the midstreys, and there are flattened segmental relieving arches above the doorways. A chamfered plinth runs around the base of the barn, with the bottom brick course projecting.
On the east side, which faces the farmyard, there are first-floor loading bays flanking the main doorway, although much of the wall to the right has been rebuilt using re-used and later bricks. Each gable end features a single ventilator. Inside, the barn has a five-bay roof supported by A-frame trusses with pegged lap-jointed collars.
