Description

This barn, dating to the late 18th or early 19th century, is located 35 metres south-west of Gower’s Farmhouse. It is a timber-framed structure with weatherboard cladding on a red brick plinth laid in a Flemish bond pattern. The roof is covered with corrugated asbestos. The barn has 10 bays aligned north-west to south-east, featuring two midstreys on the north-east side. An open lean-to is situated in the east angle, roofed with slate. A smaller lean-to, with a roof of red clay ‘Roman’ tiles and slate, sits between the midstreys, while another lean-to in the north angle is roofed with corrugated red clay tiles. There are two pairs of large doors on the south-west side. The north-east side has one pair of vehicle doors, one blocked midstrey, three halved doors, and two high-pitched doors. The base walls are approximately 2 metres high and are plastered internally. The barn's structure includes primary straight bracing, bolted knees to straight tiebeams, face-halved and bladed scarfs in the wallplates, and a clasped purlin roof.
