Description

This is a farmhouse, likely dating from the 16th century, with alterations in the 19th and 20th centuries. It is constructed of plastered cob on rubble footings, with stone or cob stacks topped with 19th-century brick, and has a corrugated asbestos roof—formerly thatched. The house has a three-room-and-through-passage plan, with a service end to the northeast and a secondary kitchen wing added in the 17th century, projecting at a right angle to the inner room. There is a gable end stack to the lower end and an axial hall stack backing onto the passage. The south-east facing front has two storeys and a four-window arrangement. The ground floor and first floor to the right of centre have 19th-century three-light timber casements with glazing bars. The remaining windows, and those on the front wing, are 20th-century PVC casements, but maintain the original size and placement of earlier windows. The front door is centrally placed, with an oval plaque set into the wall face and surrounded by a moulded plaster frame. While most internal features are now concealed or blocked, original 16th and 17th-century features remain. A late 19th- to early 20th-century cast iron railing with spearheads separates the front garden from the farmyard.
