Description

This is an early 18th-century barn located south of Wantage on the Ridgeway. The barn is constructed of Flemish bond brick with flared headers and has an old tile roof. It follows a 3-bay aisle plan with a central threshing floor. Ventilation slits are located on either side of a hipped porch roof, which now has 20th-century doors. The interior features posts braced to tie beams and wall plates. It also has a 3-bay queen-post roof with clasped purlins. To the left of the barn is an L-shaped, 3 by 4 bay shelter shed facing the rear, with 20th-century weatherboarding over a timber frame on a brick plinth and an old tile roof. This shelter shed also contains a queen-post truss with clasped purlins.
