Description

This milestone, located south of Manor Road Farm, dates from the late 18th century. It is a bare stone slab with a rectangular shape and a rounded top. The front of the milestone is inscribed with the distances to Wantage (1 mile) and Hungerford (12.5 miles). It was erected by the Besselsleigh Turnpike Trust, which was established in 1771. This milestone is part of a series that marks the road between Hungerford and Wantage.
