Description

This is a milestone located on the A4 at the junction with Stitchcombe Road, dating from the late 18th century. It is made of painted sarsen stone and features a half hexagonal shaft that tapers to a rectangular section plinth. The top of the milestone is slightly gabled. The original incised inscription is now illegible, having been overpainted with legends indicating distances: to Hungerford, 10 miles to the left, and to Marlborough, 2 miles to the right. Additionally, the plinth displays the distance to London, which is 72 miles.
